The Man Behind Sigda’s Ghost Chili Beer

Sigda’s Ghost Chili Beer is back on tap at Coopersmith’s Pub and Poolside, and lovers of spicy foods are already making room in their schedule to enjoy a pint of one of Fort Collins’ most unique brews.

Living up to the ghost chili promise, Sigda’s packs more heat than your traditional chili beer. There’s more to life (and beer) than pure heat, though, so we age Sigda’s on a blend of Anaheim, jalapeno, Serrano, habanero and ghost peppers, giving it a blend of raw pepper aromatics that perfectly complement the fiery kick this blonde delivers.

Chili beer fanatics may be familiar with the beer, the man that inspired it isn’t as widely known. Before becoming the architect of our menu, Coopersmiths’ brewer, Brad, served in the Peace Corps in Kenya in 1983. While helping locals develop their infrastructure, he worked alongside John Sigda. Sigda grew up in Poland, eating those spice-laden traditional dishes of Central Europe, and continued his quest for mouth-burning eats, exploring African spices.

It wasn’t just Sigda’s love of hot food that inspired Brad to name one of Coopersmith’s craft beers after him, though. Sigda graduated from Harvard and spoke fluent Swahili. His father was a plumber and, despite his ivy-league credentials, never lost the respect for everyday folks.

Sigda’s Ghost Chili beer isn’t for the faint of heart, so it’s OK if you’re not ready to fire up your taste buds with a pint. Coopersmith’s in Old Town Fort Collins has a craft beer to suit virtually every taste. Summer favorites like Fairway Session IPA and What-A-Melon are on tap, while year-round staples like Punjabi Pale Ale and Horsetooth Stout are ready to meet your hoppy or malty preferences. Looking for something more refined? We have a Bourbon Barrel Barleywine (aged in barrels from Four Roses Distillery) and Cask Conditioned Punjabi Pale Ale on tap.

Another Successful Father’s Day 5k in the Books

Even clouds and the chance of rain couldn’t cast a shadow over the 21st annual Father’s Day 5K, and CooperSmith’s was proud to be a part of the event again.

The Father’s Day tradition inaugurated a fresh route this year, with participants making their way around The Shops at Foothills, in a 5K and a 1-mile kids race. Turnout was fantastic! As founding sponsors, we were excited to see families returning. We provided root beer floats to help participants quench their post-race thirst, and more than 600 runners received coupons for free beer or soda they can redeem at our Old Town Fort Collins locations.

Free Old Town Music Events 2018

Music (and craft beer) fans have a packed calendar this summer, as there are more Old Town music events this summer than ever before. There’s no better way to enjoy it all than at CooperSmith’s Old Town Patio with a cold beer in your hand.

The Old Town Square stage gets a lot of use in 2018, with free concerts held every Thursday, many Fridays and, of course, all through New West Fest/Bohemian nights weekends. There’s no better way to experience the breadth of Fort Collins’ music scene, though navigating the sheer volume of artists can be tricky to newcomers. Bohemian Nights – Thursday Night Live

Brought to you by the same folks who made NewWestFest’s sister music festival Northern Colorado’s top summer event, Thursday Night Live runs every Thursday between May 31 and Aug. 2, and presents styles that range from Americana to indie to Soul/R&B. Curated with the same care as the festival, Thursday Night Live presents a stacked lineup all summer.

If you haven’t had a chance to see Sour Boy, Bitter Girl, you haven’t been trying too hard. A mainstay of Fort Collins’ indie scene for more than a decade, the band’s third album, The Palm Reader and The Palm Writer, shows just why we treat them as hometown heroes – even after relocating to Denver.


Downtown Sessions Concert Series

Presented by the Downtown Business Association, the event brings bands to the stage once a month. If you’re lucky, they overlap with downtown’s First Friday gallery walk. Even when they don’t they present family-friendly area bands with sounds that connect with diverse audiences.

There’s a reason Bon Jovi selected The Patti Fiasco to open for its March date at the Pepsi Center. You’ll immediately see why. A blend of classic country and rock’n’roll that’s not quite alt-country, yet not quite rock, it mines a vein of comfortably upbeat sounds. Plus, you’ll have better seats than at the Pepsi center, guaranteed.


Bohemian Nights New West Fest

It’s the weekend music fans look forward to all year, and for good reason. Bringing three nationally known headliners to the stage as well as some of the state’s most acclaimed musicians, it’s a whirlwind of sound that presents everything from hip-hop to classic rock. Best of all, it’s 100 percent free to enjoy it all.

Bohemian Nights’ 2018 lineup is still under wraps, but it’s bound to be fantastic. With previous headliners such as Cake, The Steve Miller band and the B-52s, just make plans to attend now. It won’t be a mistake.

CooperSmith’s Raised $9,909 During Great Plates of Downtown Fort Collins

We’re proud to announce that we have raised a total of $9,909 during the Annual Great Plates of Downtown Fort Collins benefiting The Food Bank For Larimer County.

We offered a 2-course dinner for 2 plus 2 pints for $25. Dinner options included Surf N’ Turf, New York Strip Steak, Fish N’ Chips, Schweineschnitzel or Highland Cottage Pie with a choice of Vanilla or Chocolate Mousse to finished out the meal.

“Great Plates is one of our favorite annual fundraisers to participate in, not only because it involves the entire community, but because it brings together the restaurant community for a great cause,” said Dwight Hall, President and Brewer at CooperSmith’s. “We really try to engage our entire staff throughout the week and we’re thrilled with the amount we were able to raise for The Food Bank this year.”
