The Mischievous Monk – Bottled for To-Go!

A playful invitation of dark fruit and bubblegum aromas excite curiosity, while a peppery spiciness and warming alcohol sensation provide contrast to the rich malt flavors. At 10.8% ABV, this is one deceptively drinkable ale!

Only the 2nd beer we’ve ever bottled at CooperSmith’s (the first is our special Christmas brew –  Jingle Ale), this Belgian Dark Strong Ale is available in 500 ml bottles.

The Belgian ale yeast utilized creates a cathedral of flavors, from bubblegum to pepper.  A secondary fermentation is induced in the bottle, raising incrementally the ABV but mainly intended to carbonate the beer.

The “Monk” moniker pays homage to Belgian ale yeast and adherence to the monastic brewing tradition, a Trappist lineage dating back to the Middle Ages.  In response to myriad contemporary breweries – few of which have any monastic anything diluting the title of “Trappist” – recently the authentic  monasteries and their accompanying brewing operations banded together…a union of monks.

Stop in and pick up some Mischievous Monk to take home!

Note: CooperSmith’s will be CLOSED on Sunday, Feb. 2 – so take home some of this delicious Belgian Dark Strong Ale for the Big Game!
