Memorial Day is right around the corner, and that means summer is, too. While you can hide out in an air-conditioned movie theater instead of sweating it out, you probably don’t live in Colorado because you want to stay indoors. With that in mind, here are our tips to beat the heat in Fort Collins this summer.
Tube the Poudre
There’s no better way to enjoy a lazy afternoon than floating on a tube in crisp Rocky Mountain runoff. Mid July and August are the optimal times –because of summer temperatures as well as the reduced, safer river flows. Put in on Highway 14 near mile marker 116.5, and ride your way down to the takeout at Picnic Rock.
Enjoy a What-A-Melon Blonde Ale
Nothing goes together better than a thirst-busting ale and a great patio. We have both: Join us Monday, May 22nd as we tap What-A-Melon Ale, a crisp summer ale brewed with watermelon for the ultimate in refreshment, and celebrate by enjoying the brew on our Old Town patio.
Swim at Seaman Reservoir
Everyone knows about the swim beach at Horsetooth, Seaman Reservoir is one of Northern Colorado’s secret swimmin’ holes. Take a short hike starting in Gateway Natural Area https://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/finder/gateway up to the reservoir for dip in natural waters that’s not nearly as crowded as Horsetooth.
Bike the Spring Creek Trail
No matter if you’re an expert biker or borrowing a pair of wheels from Fort Collins Bike Share, the Spring Creek Trail offers the shade cast by plenty of mature trees as well as the cool air from the waterway it follows.
